Alfred State and Jamestown CC battled in two tight Region III Division III contests on Sunday with the Jayhawks coming up on top 3-1 and 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers are now 6-26 (5-15 Region III Division III) on the season.

In game one, Ryan Hierlwimmer (Livonia) collected two hits while Eric Mehaffy (Lisbon) had a RBI hit.  Garrett Hoag (Dansville) pitched 5.2 innings allowing three hits and no earned runs.  He struck out seven.

The Alfred State baseball team trailed twice in game two of the second game of a Region III Division III doubleheader at Corning CC but was able to rally for a 4-3 victory to salvage a split. The Red Barons jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in the opener en route to a 12-2 victory in the opener.

Pioneers and Red Barons Split Wild Doubleheader

Alfred State and Corning CC battled in a Region III Division III doubleheader that featured more twists and turns than a mystery novel.  The Pioneers (5-23, 4-12) walked off with a 9-8 victory in game one while the Red Barons (7-15, 4-10) took game two 7-6 behind a solo homer in the top of the 9th.

The Alfred State baseball team were just outs away from defeating Monroe CC at the David Chamberlain Tournament but the Tribunes rallied for three runs in the 7th to walk-off with a 5-4 victory.

Brett Rapan (Bolivar Richburg) singled home Kiele Wilson (Bath Haverling) in the 7th inning to break a 4-4 tie en route to a Alfred State 6-4 victory over Broome CC on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers clinched the series with the victory and finish the year 3-1 vs. the Hornets.

The Alfred State baseball team dropped a pair of 10-0 decisions to Onondaga CC in a Region III Division III doubleheader.

The Alfred State baseball team dropped a pair of 10-0 decisions to Onondaga CC in a Region III Division III doubleheader.

OCC was able to jump to early leads and never look back.  They held the Pioneers to eight singles in the doubleheader.  Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) finished the day 2 for 5. 

The blue & gold (3-20, 2-11 RIII DIII) return to action on Friday when they host Broome CC in a single 7-inning contest beginning at 4 p.m.

Walks and Errors Cost Pioneers

Onondaga CC took advantage of 13 walks and nine errors in a Region III Division III sweep at Alfred State on Tuesday. The Lazers won the opener 13-1 and the nightcap 6-1 in games that featured snow flurries, high winds, and cold temperatures.

OCC scored in each of the five innings of the first game.  They plated three in the 1st and 4th innings and put the game out of reach with five in the 5th inning.  The Pioneers were held to just two hits with Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton) finishing 1 for 2 with the team's lone RBI.

The Alfred State baseball team gave up three big innings as they were swept by Niagara CCC in a Region III Division III doubleheader.  The Pioneers are now 3-16 (2-7 RIII DIII) on the season following 11-1 and 17-2 losses.

In the opener, the Thunderwolves scored six in the 3rd inning to break open a 1-0 game.  NCCC collected nine hits and took advantage of four Pioneer errors.  The Pioneers lone run of the game came in the 4th on a throwing error following a Greg Koller (Chesterland, OH) infield single.

The Alfred State baseball team dropped a heartbreaker 3-2 in 13 innings to Tompkins Cortland CC and could not recover in game two as they fell 10-0.  The Pioneers are now 3-14 (2-5 Region III Division III) on the season.

The Pioneers got on the board first in the 3rd but the Panthers tied it in the 6th.  Both teams scored in the 9th before TC3 won the game with a two-out

Hoag Named Region Co-Athlete of the Week

Alfred State baseball player Garrett Hoag (Dansville) has been named the Region III Co-Athlete of the week. He shares the weekly honor with Mercyhurst North East baseball player Dustin Godden.

Alfred State baseball player Garrett Hoag (Dansville) has been named the Region III Co-Athlete of the week.  He shares the weekly honor with Mercyhurst North East baseball player Dustin Godden.

Hoag pitched a masterpiece in the Pioneers 1-0 series opening win over Broome CC.  He tossed ten innings and struck out 17 Hornets.  He allowed just four hits and two walks and earned the victory in the pitcher's duel.

For the year, Hoag is 1-2 on the mound with a 2.66 ERA.  He has 29 strikeouts in 20.1 innings of work.
