Pioneers Sweep Past Ithaca JV

The Alfred State College baseball team swept a pair, 5-4 and 13-2, from Ithaca College JV on Tuesday afternoon.  The wins snap a three game losing streak and improves the Pioneers to 16-13 on the season.

In the opener, Nick Koroluck (Owego) singled home Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan) with no outs in the 7th to break a 4-4 tie and lift the Pioneers to the victory.  ASC trailed 4-3 heading into their last at bat.  Jake Dale (Keshequa) led off the inning with a triple and scored on a single by Anthony Espe (Union Endicott).

Pioneers Tripped up by Genesee

Genesee CC scored four runs in the 7th inning to rally for a 8-7 victory in game one and then held on for a 4-2 victory in game two to sweep Alfred State in a Region III Division II doubleheader.  ASC falls to 14-13 (1-3 RIII DII) while GCC improves to 11-10 (3-1 RIII DII).

Kevin Daniels hit a three-run homer with out in the top of the 7th inning to cap a four run inning that erased a 7-4 Pioneer lead. ASC had broken a 4-4 tie with a single run in the 5th inning and two more in the 6th.

Rain Washes Out Baseball & Softball Weekend Games

Saturday and Sunday baseball and softball doubleheaders have been cancelled due to the cold and wet weather that has plagued the southern tier.

Alfred State and Genesee CC split their opening Region III Division II doubleheader at Dwyer Park in Batavia on Thursday.  ASC won the opener 6-5 but fell on a walk-off homer in the nightcap 7-4.

The Alfred State College baseball team split a doubleheader at Lakeland (OH) CC on Wednesday afternoon.  The Pioneers (13-10) won the opener 11-4 but fell 3-2 to in the nightcap.

Baseball Cancelled Tuesday

Today's (4/13) Alfred State baseball doubleheader baseball game at Lakeland (OH) CC has been cancelled due to rain in the Cleveland area.  The Pioneers and Lakers will now play on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

The Pioneers (12-9) will open up Region III Division II play on Thursday with a doubleheader at Genesee CC.  First pitch is at 1 p.m.  ASC and GCC wrap up the home and home series on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader in Alfred.

Pioneer Baseball Wins One over Weekend

The Alfred State College baseball team went 1-3 on a weekend road trip.  ASC fell 1-0 and and 9-2 to Lackawanna (PA) College on Friday and then split a doubleheader with Hagerstown (MD) CC, winning 8-6 and falling 4-3 in eight innings.  ASC is now 12-9 on the season.

Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) didn't allow an earned run in six innings of work in game one versus Lackawanna but was the tough luck loser.  Ciccotti allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out two.  ASC was held to just three singles in the contest.

Baseball Schedule Changed for Rest of Week

Thursday afternoon's scheduled Alfred State home baseball game versus Lackawanna (PA) College has been cancelled and has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday at Lackawanna.

The Pioneers will play two games at Lackawanna on Friday and head to Hagerstown (MD) CC for two more on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.

ASC enters the weekend with a 11-6 record and winners of five of the six games they have played since returning from Florida.

Pioneers Score 31 Runs in Sweep

Alfred State scored 31 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Ithaca College JV.  The Pioneers won the opener 16-11 and the nightcap 15-2 to improve to 11-6 on the season.

Brian Zimmermann (Frontier) was 2 for 4 with a homer and 3 RBI in game one while Jake Dale (Keshequa) chipped in two triples and 3 RBI.  Kyle and Ryan Barkley (Penn Yan) each finished with two hits for the blue & gold.  Five Pioneers saw time on the mound with Ray Sova (West Genesee) and Andrew Alexander (LeRoy) each tossing scoreless innings.

Pioneer Baseball Sweeps Pitt-Brad JV

Alfred State swept a doubleheader from the JV squad from Pitt-Bradford, 7-5 & 14-4, on Thursday to improve to 9-6 on the season.  The Pioneers are now 3-1 since returning from their southern trip.

Ryan Barkley (Penn Yan) was 3 for 4 with a run scored to pace the Pioneer offensive attack in game one.  Brian Zimmerman (Frontier) was 2 for 3 with a RBI, JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) was 2 for 4, and Kevan Smith (Cicero-North Syracuse) was 1 for 2 with 3 RBI.
