Athletic Department Hands Out End of Year Awards

The Alfred State College athletic department presented their annual end-of-year athletic awards during a ceremony held at the Lake Lodge on May 3rd.  The athlete of the year, sportsmanship, leadership, academic, and William Havens awards were presented.

Seedings Set for Region III Division II Baseball Tournament

Alfred State College will host the 2010 Region III Division II baseball tournament May 7-9 with the winner advancing the NJCAA East District Championship.  The Pioneers will enter the double-elimination tournament as the #4 seed.

Monroe CC is the #1 seed followed by Genesee CC.  MCC and GCC both finished 8-4 in regional play but the Tribunes won tie-breaker to earn the top seed.  Mercyhurst North East (4-8) is the #3 seed via the tie-breaker rule over Alfred State.

Early morning thunderstorms has forced the cancellation of the Alfred State baseball team's final regular season doubleheader at Pitt-Bradford.  The game will not be made-up.

Baseball Splits at Mercyhurst North East

The Alfred State College baseball team split a Region III Division II doubleheader at Mercyhurst North East on Saturday.  ASC won the opener 10-6 but fell 9-1 in the nightcap.  The Pioneers are now 19-18 overall and 4-8 in Region III Division II play.

Pioneers and Saints Split

Alfred State and Mercyhurst North East split a Region III Division II doubleheader on Thursday.  The Saints won a wild opener 11-9 while the Pioneers used a strong pitching performance to win game two, 8-1.

Mercyhurst scored three runs in the 6th inning keyed by a two run triple by Matthew Adamczyk to rally from a 9-8 deficit to win game one.  MNE held an 8-3 lead early on but Alfred State rallied for three runs in the 2nd, one in the 3rd, and two in the 4th to take a 9-8 lead.

Dale named Athlete of the Week

Alfred State sophomore outfielder Jake Dale (Keshequa) has been named the Region III male athlete of the week.  Dale hit .464 this past week in eight games for the Pioneers.

Alfred State sophomore outfielder Jake Dale (Keshequa) has been named the Region III male athlete of the week.  Dale hit .464 this past week in eight games for the Pioneers.

Dale was 13 for 28 at the plate this week.  He connected on four triples, one homer, and 10 RBI.  Jake scored 10 runs and stole three bases.  Dale's hit a solo homer in a victory over Ithaca JV on Tuesday and was 4 for 4 with three triples in a 9-6 victory over Monroe CC on Saturday.

Today's Alfred State baseball game at Finger Lakes CC has been cancelled due to the wet weather the area has been experiencing the past 48 hours.  No make-up date has been announced.

Sunday Baseball & Softball Washed Out

The scheduled baseball and softball doubleheader for Sunday April 25th have been washed out.  The baseball team was scheduled to play Onondaga CC and no make-up date has been announced while the softball team was scheduled to play Tompkins Cortland CC and will now play on May 8th beginning at 1 p.m.

Pioneers and Tribunes Split Wild DH

Alfred State and Monroe CC split a high scoring Region III Division II baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.  Monroe won the opener 12-7 while Alfred won the nightcap 9-6.

In the opener, MCC jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings only to see ASC scored seven runs in the 5th inning to capture their only lead.  Monroe answered right back with two runs in the 6th to re-gain the lead and scored four insurance runs in the 7th.  The game featured eight pitchers, 15 walks, 19 runs, and 20 hits.

Pioneers Can't Solve Monroe

The Alfred State College baseball team fell 12-2 and 5-4 in nine innings to Monroe CC on Thursday afternoon.  The Pioneers are now 16-15 overall and 1-5 in Region III Division II play.

Seven Pioneer errors in the opener propelled Monroe CC to the victory.  MCC used a four run 1st inning and a six run 4th inning to take command.  ASC was held to just four hits with Joe Wallace (Avoca) picking up the lone RBI with a solo homer in the 5th inning.
