The Nursing Department offers an accredited associate-degree nursing program accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) [61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006] that prepares individuals to become Registered Nurses (RNs). The nursing major is designed to be completed in two academic years, but may be revised to meet individual needs. Licensed practical nurses or transfer students from other nursing programs are eligible for advanced placement.

Alfred State nursing AAS graduates may enter directly into the nursing bachelor's degree program. The bachelor's degree program can be completed full time in two years or part time as the student desires. The upper-level nursing courses are offered in a online format. The upper-level course work includes nursing, science, and liberal arts, primarily. Students are invited to campus twice a semester for orientation to the course and to a scholarship day at the semester's end.

This is an exciting time to be in nursing.  The impending shortage of practitioners and current critical shortage of educators is leading to multiple options for those interested in the profession.  Jobs are available nationwide in a wide range of settings, usually with excellent salaries, and opportunities for growth.  At Alfred State, we are preparing students who will be designers, coordinators and managers of healthcare. Our students graduate as leaders contributing to the advancement of health care and the profession itself.

Alfred State prepares nurses on a number of levels.  The student completes our 2-year associate degree RN program, is eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensing exam, and graduates with an Associate Degree in Nursing.  License practical nurses (LPNs) may enter this program with advanced standing.  Students receive excellent clinical preparation in a variety of settings within an hour radius of the AS campus.  We also offer a dual degree program where the student is enrolled simultaneously in the ADN and BS-N program.  Lastly, we offer a BS-N completion program for registered nurses prepared at the associate degree level. This program may be completed as either a full-time or part-time student, in either an online or hybrid format. This quality program offers flexibility for working professionals with hubs in the Alfred, NYC and Albany, NY areas.
