Alfred State College is making the US National Arboretum greener! Five students enrolled in Alfred State College's electrical construction and maintenance electrician program, accompanied by Assistant Professor Jeffrey Stevens, spent their recent spring break in Washington, DC, conducting a four-day workshop that resulted in the installation of a 1 kW solar (electric) array that will power an irrigation system at the United States National Arboretum. This is the first solar-powered system at the Arboretum.

Alfred State College's School of Applied Technology, Wellsville, hosted the 11th annual New York State Postsecondary (college level) SkillsUSA competition in March.  Competitions took place in automotive service, CNC milling, carpentry, collision repair technology, commercial baking, computer maintenance technology, cosmetology, culinary, diesel technology, job skills demonstration, masonry, precision machining, residential wiring, technical drafting, and welding.

Sr. Leadership at ASC Forfeit Upcoming Raises

Senior leadership at Alfred State College has unanimously agreed to forfeit their upcoming raises in order to offset current budget deficits and give back to the College in this difficult financial climate.

Senior leadership at Alfred State College has unanimously agreed to forfeit their upcoming raises in order to offset current budget deficits and give back to the College in this difficult financial climate.

"I am pleased that the senior leadership here at the college is taking seriously the need for giving back to the institution," said Alfred State College President Dr. John M. Anderson.  "It sets a fine example at Alfred State, and I encourage other faculty and staff to follow their lead."

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day - Thursday, April 23

Alfred State College employees are once again invited to participate in the annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day on Thursday, April 23.

ASC opens this activity up not only to daughters and sons, but also to granddaughters, grandsons, nieces, and nephews between the ages of nine and 15.

Alfred State College employees are once again invited to participate in the annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day on Thursday, April 23.

ASC opens this activity up not only to daughters and sons, but also to granddaughters, grandsons, nieces, and nephews between the ages of nine and 15.  Participants will take part in interactive learning activities, including career exploration; community service; job shadowing with the parent, grandparent, aunt, or uncle; a campus tour; and some fun and games.

Alfred State College students enrolled in the School of Applied Technology will have the opportunity to visit with prospective employers during the Wellsville Career Fair, Thursday, March 26, from 1-3 p.m. in the Culinary Arts Building on the Wellsville campus.

Alfred State College students enrolled in the School of Applied Technology will have the opportunity to visit with prospective employers during the Wellsville Career Fair, Thursday, March 26, from 1-3 p.m. in the Culinary Arts Building on the Wellsville campus.  Additionally, students will be able to research information about different careers and learn how to interact with those folks in the "real world" who may become their future bosses.

Honors Convocation - Sunday, April 19

Alfred State College will celebrate the academic achievements of its students during the 25th annual Honors Convocation slated for Sunday, April 19, at 4 p.m. in the Orvis Gymnasium on the Alfred campus.

The convocation recognizes the outstanding work of students through acknowledgement of membership in a variety of honor societies as well as the conferment of scholarships and special recognitions.
