ASC Hosts Conference on Aging

About 150 professionals are expected when Alfred State College hosts the fourth annual Conference on Aging, Tuesday, March 18, from 8 a.m-4 p.m.

About 150 professionals are expected when Alfred State College hosts the fourth annual Conference on Aging, Tuesday, March 18, from 8 a.m-4 p.m.

Rose Marie Fagan, outreach coordinator, The Pioneer Network, the morning's keynote speaker, will discuss pioneering approaches to change the culture of aging from the traditional nursing facilities to a culture that is life affirming, satisfying, humane, and meaningful.  Participants will learn new ways of de-institutionalizing services and individualizing care across the aging services spectrum.

Communications Office Wins in Admissions Advertising Awards Competition

Alfred State College's Office of Communications has been notified that it was named a recipient of four awards in the 23rd Annual Admissions Advertising Awards Competition, sponsored by the Admissions Marketing Report publication.

Alfred State College's Office of Communications has been notified that it was named a recipient of four awards in the 23rd Annual Admissions Advertising Awards Competition, sponsored by the Admissions Marketing Report publication. Winning entries included the ASC student view book (Come for a Visit then Decide); the ASC student life brochure (Life at Alfred State); and a single spot television commercial (featuring alumnus Conroy Parchment, 2005) which all garnered silver awards, and the Athletics Brochure which captured a bronze.

ASC places 12th statewide in NYSMATYC Math Contest

math competitionFifty Alfred State College students participated in the fall portion of the annual NYS Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges (NYSMATYC) Math Contest in October where the team placed 12th in the statewide competition. More than 700 students from 22 NYS two-year colleges competed.

Construction Specifications Institute Awards ASC

Alfred State College (SUNY College of Technology) has been named this year's "Honorable Mention" in the 2008 Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Awards for its recently completed townhouse-style residence halls. LECESSE Construction, Rochester; SWBR Architects, Rochester; and DASNY (Dormitory Authority of the State of New York) were also recognized along with Alfred representatives at the awards ceremony in March.

Culhane Receives NODA Award

Alfred State College student Denis Culhane, of Rochester, a senior in the liberal arts/social sciences program at the college, has been recognized by the National Orientation Directors Association (NODA) with a Student Leadership award for two-year colleges. 

Alfred State College student Denis Culhane, of Rochester, a senior in the liberal arts/social sciences program at the college, has been recognized by the National Orientation Directors Association (NODA) with a Student Leadership award for two-year colleges.  Denis attended the Region IX (NY, MA, CT, NH, ME, VT, RI states) NODA conference in Portland, ME, where he was recognized for his leadership during New Student Orientation as well as his impact on team development.  In order to qualify, candidates were required to have served as orientation leaders the previous year.
