Communications Office Wins in Admissions Advertising Awards Competition

Alfred State College's Office of Communications has been notified that it was named a recipient of four awards in the 23rd Annual Admissions Advertising Awards Competition, sponsored by the Admissions Marketing Report publication.

Alfred State College's Office of Communications has been notified that it was named a recipient of four awards in the 23rd Annual Admissions Advertising Awards Competition, sponsored by the Admissions Marketing Report publication. Winning entries included the ASC student view book (Come for a Visit then Decide); the ASC student life brochure (Life at Alfred State); and a single spot television commercial (featuring alumnus Conroy Parchment, 2005) which all garnered silver awards, and the Athletics Brochure which captured a bronze.

ASC places 12th statewide in NYSMATYC Math Contest

math competitionFifty Alfred State College students participated in the fall portion of the annual NYS Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges (NYSMATYC) Math Contest in October where the team placed 12th in the statewide competition. More than 700 students from 22 NYS two-year colleges competed.

Construction Specifications Institute Awards ASC

Alfred State College (SUNY College of Technology) has been named this year's "Honorable Mention" in the 2008 Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Awards for its recently completed townhouse-style residence halls. LECESSE Construction, Rochester; SWBR Architects, Rochester; and DASNY (Dormitory Authority of the State of New York) were also recognized along with Alfred representatives at the awards ceremony in March.

Culhane Receives NODA Award

Alfred State College student Denis Culhane, of Rochester, a senior in the liberal arts/social sciences program at the college, has been recognized by the National Orientation Directors Association (NODA) with a Student Leadership award for two-year colleges. 

Alfred State College student Denis Culhane, of Rochester, a senior in the liberal arts/social sciences program at the college, has been recognized by the National Orientation Directors Association (NODA) with a Student Leadership award for two-year colleges.  Denis attended the Region IX (NY, MA, CT, NH, ME, VT, RI states) NODA conference in Portland, ME, where he was recognized for his leadership during New Student Orientation as well as his impact on team development.  In order to qualify, candidates were required to have served as orientation leaders the previous year.

ASC Offers Out-of-State Academic Scholarship

In an effort to expand its outreach to prospective students outside the New York State borders, Alfred State College will begin offering a new scholarship for out-of-state students, the Out-of-State Academic Scholarship, beginning with the Fall 2008 semester. 

In an effort to expand its outreach to prospective students outside the New York State borders, Alfred State College will begin offering a new scholarship for out-of-state students, the Out-of-State Academic Scholarship, beginning with the Fall 2008 semester. 

Scholarship recipients may receive $2,000 per year for up to four years (equivalent of a baccalaureate degree) if they maintain a 2.5 grade point average.

A merit-based award, the Out-of-State Academic Scholarship is open to prospective students with an 85 or better overall high school average.

Alfred State College recently received a $29,320 grant to organize a system for local farmers to supply Alfred State College's dining services with fresh produce. To accomplish this, the Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture (COSA) will provide support and educational benefits for local farmers.

To accomplish this, the Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture (COSA) will provide support and educational benefits for local farmers. The grant was written by Dr. Robert Curry, assistant professor, ASC English and Humanities Department, with co-author Dr. Matthew Harbur, assistant professor, ASC Agriculture and Horticulture Department. The grant was issued by the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets.
