Thank you so much for taking the time to read up on my adventures in Sorrento! I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day! If you were in Sorrento for Valentine's Day, you would have experienced something entirely different any other Valentine's Day.
This past week we went to Naples - any students who come to Sorrento need to get a 'Permit of Stay,' which is obtained by travelling to Naples. It was pretty basic - we just had to get a few fingerprints done and to have a few fingerprints taken. After getting that stuff out of the way, we let the real fun begin.
The Human Services major, both associate and bachelor's are in the process of starting up a club. We have already elected officers; however, we are looking for interested people who would like to join. The club meets the last Monday of every month at Braddon Hall lounge at 5:30. Everyone is invited, it does not matter what major you are in. We are looking for people who are interested in volunteering. We are trying to plan many volunteer opportunities. On Monday we are starting are starting a food drive to collect food for the ACCORD food bank along with other.
Well that huge snow storm that was predicted never hit, typical, and of course all the surrounding schools shut down the night before, but not Alfred State College. oh well it was pointless to shut down anyway. Classes have been running pretty smoothly, thank goodness, and the semester is flying by. It is hard to believe that we are already at the end our fourth week of classes. I think that there is more snow here than there has been in the past three years that I have been here, I am not complaining though because this is a beautiful place to be in the winter.
This past weekend our ASC study abroad class traveled to Rome, Italy! We had a fantastic time, and spent nearly three days touring the eternal city. I was even able to meet up with my girlfriend Meg, who is currently studying in London, England with another college.
So far, this semester has been a blast. The newest addition to the list of awesome things I've been a part of at Alfred State is the leadership retreat. Not only was it a great opportunity to meet a lot students who I haven't already met in my previous three years, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet with coach Herman Boone! From hearing Coach Boone speak, it was clear that he is every bit as strong, determined and inspirational as his portray in Remember the Titans.
This is the second week back to school since winter break. Classes are finally starting to settle in and are starting to become a little more schedulized. Coming into this semester I was worried that I was going to have a difficult time keeping my grades up because I only have one of my normal professors and the rest are business teachers and most of all I am taking my first online class. I was worried that the business classes would have way too much for me to keep up with and that the classes would be very boring.
For this post I thought I would tell you all a little bit about our first project for our Architectural design studio, which we refer to as 'Studio Sorrento." This past week, we made a trip to the Island of Capri, which is about a 20 minute ferry ride from the port in Sorrento. It is a very beautiful island with some really breath-taking views, however these views were not the reason why we made this trip to Capri.
