The beginning of a new semester!

Hey Everyone!

I know it has been a while since I last wrote winter break just ended and I am in my second week of my internship and my last semester as a student at Alfred State College. Things are very different now that I am no longer on campus and basically working full time experiencing what the working world is like. Starting last week I became Corning Painted-Post School Districts Public Information Intern. I have already learned a lot about a companies/organizations appearance to the public and why it is important to maintain that appearance. I am working with a number of tools I never would have thought of using while still on campus, and if I had known about them then homework would have been a lot easier lol!!!

I think it is really cool that Alfred State makes internships a part of students curriculum because it definitely gives you a different aspect on life. I can't even tell you how much I learned in class that I can now put into action ... My Professors would laugh if they heard me admit this but everything they teach you is relevant haha even though I complained and said it would never be relevant in the "real world" I am eating my words now.

I am feeling kind of homesick since I have spent the last 5 and 1/2 years at Alfred on campus... I still feel like my room in Mackenzie South is my home and it is weird living on my own in an apartment. I feel like you don't realize what you have until it's gone. I feel like as stressful as going to class and having midterms and exams can be working 8-4:30 feels way more stressful. I was involved in so much on campus but it was still nothing compared to having essentially a full time job. You don't realize on campus you can create your own schedule and take naps or lunch/food breaks whenever you want and do your work on your own time but working full time you need to work when your told all the time blahh.

Paying bills and working and not having enough time to just hang out is defin. a reality check. I'll write more later but for now I have to go back to work.
