My First Trip to Naples
This past week we went to Naples - any students who come to Sorrento need to get a 'Permit of Stay,' which is obtained by travelling to Naples. It was pretty basic - we just had to get a few fingerprints done and to have a few fingerprints taken. After getting that stuff out of the way, we let the real fun begin.
Since a majority of students here in Sorrento from Alfred State are Architecture Students, we simply had to see the Galleria Umberto -- the famous galleria with highly ornate street facades, and covered by a vast dome of steel and glass. As we made our way to the Galleria, we stopped at a small pizza shop in Naples. It was a very small restaurant, but I did notice that there were at least 20 people waiting outside to get some of this pizza, at 11 AM! So we finally got inside, and I looked at a picture on the wall of Julia Roberts eating a slice of pizza. I asked my friend about it, and it turned out that this was the restaurant where part of the movie "Eat, Pray, Love" was filmed. I later learned that this pizzeria, which was called Michele's, has been using the exact same recipe on their pizza for more than two centuries!
Here are some pictures of me chowing down. You'll notice I have two different pizzas in front of me - I ate both of those by myself...one of the best decisions I have ever made! Easily some of the best pizza I have ever had.
Then we finally arrived at the Galleria Umberto, which was absolutely breathtaking! The buildings inside looked so beautiful, and the glass covering over the walkways was truly spectacular. Below are some more pictures of this amazing feat of architecture, and look forward to more blogs from me soon!
