Bowling Day for Hornell Children's Home

The last two weeks of the semester are always the busiest. All of the professors seem to dump all of their final projects or tests on us all at the same time and having them due on the same day. One good thing about that though, is that after everything is completed and handed in you receive the largest feeling of accomplishment.

Hydrofracking Rally

Hydrofracking is a topic I've discussed in a precious blog, but it's a highly debated topic in New York State right now. Last Wednesday was the first of four rallies and public comment hearings to discuss the DEC's SGEIS document. It took place in Dansville, and several students from Alfred University's Green Alfred Club and I drove up to hear what others had to say about the topic.

Fall Activities Fair

It is that time of the year again: SOS is recruiting new members for the spring semester. Not only is the club looking for new members who are looking to make a difference in the community, it is also looking for a new treasurer.  I will have to step down from my position at the end of this semester.  I highly recommend it.  I had a good time meeting a lot of new people and making friends, but also I learned a lot about how difficult it is to run a club.

Born To Fight

Here at Alfred, Civic Engagement is huge! Getting involved in the community is something that a lot of students want to get involved in. Because of this, we are building a student leadership center where clubs and organizations will have "store fronts" to showcase what they are all about. There is going to be a rock climbing wall and a cafe as well. This building will be centered around civic engagement. Here you can make anything happen if you want it to. Recently a family member of mine has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

New Greeks to campus!

This fall my sorority has put through six new girls. We have doubled the size of our house in one semester! The Greek community on campus has grown to about 150 students. As Greeks we hold the highest GPA's on campus, our GPA's surpass any other club or organizations GPA. We also do the most community service projects on campus. I love the Alfred State Greek Life, it isn't what you see in the movies and here a sorority or fraternity can be for anyone. We have anything from musical sororities to sororities and fraternities that like to be outdoors.

Construction on Campus

There may be a lot of construction on campus these days, which is a nuisance to many, but I think that in the end it will be worth it.

Last Open House of the Semester

Yesterday was the last open house for the fall semester, and I thought it went really well.  Both of our open houses this semester did.  Yesterday we had quite a few more people come than our first one back in October, so I'm glad to see that we have so many people interested in our school.  If any of you visited our school during either open house this semester or any other time, I hope all of your questions were answered and you got to see everything you wanted.

Boo Cancer Event

Yesterday (Sunday October, 30th), a club that I am a part of, Up 'Til Dawn, put on a Halloween party. The party was held in Pioneer Lounge, which is located on lower campus, and it was held to create awareness for childhood cancer and awareness for St. Judes Children's hospital. The event consisted of two minute to win it games and two basic Halloween games, donuts on a string and the toilet paper mummy game. We also had a costume contest and a trivia contest. Everyone who won those games got a prize. We had freshly popped popcorn, candy, and homemade apple cider.
