11/8/10 - It’s our last week here. I’m not sure how I feel about that. The weather has only just gotten amazing the past couple weeks. It’s been in the 60s during the day, and pushing the lower 40s at night. The sky has been perfectly cloudless, and the sun feels good enough to take an afternoon nap in. It feels like the North East September that I was so sad to miss, only better, from what I hear.
10/5/10 – 5:25 p.m. Driving home from work in the city for the second time. This commute is going to suck. I’m very seriously thinking about dropping $150 on some noise canceling headphones to block out the sound of commercial radio and arguing. We’re working with the St. Bernard Project for a couple weeks while The Episcopal Church Initiative gets their funding.
Today was good. Much better then yesterday. I had an off day yesterday, couldn’t do anything right. In the morning I had one little opening to frame out, and it took me three tries to get it right. The best was when I was backing the van in after doing laundry and I turned to my left to look behind me and I just smacked my head into the window. Wow. Didn’t do much better playing Volleyball ether.
We just got back from our first full day after a long weekend. Felt nice to get back to work, and felt even nicer to stop at the end of the day. I spent another day climbing around in the trusses installing go-bolts and more bracing. Even started on a little sheetrock near the end. They sub out the rest of the sheetrock, but the utility closet had to be done. Everyone else was ether prepping for roofing, prepping for siding or off painting something.
After days of painting, we got back out in the heat today. We also had a group of AmeriCorp workers show up, so that’s exciting. In one day we got up trusses, some roof sheathing, and almost finished wall sheathing. I spent the day finishing up a few framing details inside.
I’m writing this on our drive back from New Orleans. This was our second trip to the city, and it’s raining. We went to the Audubon Aquarium, and then we were going to spend the evening in the city, but it’s raining. Did I mention it’s raining? The Aquarium was neat though. 11 of us went, and I think everyone enjoyed it to varying degrees.
