Volleyball
The Alfred State volleyball team has been reborn the past few seasons as the Lady Pioneers have emerged as one of the top programs in Region III. ASC has made four straight trips to the Region III Division III Tournament after not making the tournament since the 1990s. In 2007, the Lady Pioneers made their first trip to the National Championships since 1977.

Thu, Jan 17th, 2008The Alfred State College athletic department will induct three new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame on January 26. Kathryn Stedman (volleyball & softball), Joseba Sarriegui (cross country & track & field), and Mike Brown (baseball) will be inducted at a brunch ceremony in the Allegany Room of Central Dining Hall and then honored in between games of the basketball doubleheader with Jamestown CC the same afternoon. read more »

For the second year in a row Alfred State College volleyball coach Gene Doorley has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Two-Year College Northeast-Southeast Region Coach of the Year. Doorley led the Lady Pioneers to their first trip to the NJCAA National Championships since 1977.

Alfred State College sophomores Brianne McMahon (Buffalo/Sweet Home) and Elaina Braun (Waterloo) have been named 1st team NJCAA Division III All-Americans. It is the first time in at least 30 years that A-State has had a 1st team All-American and the first time in school history that two members of the volleyball team were named All-American in the same year.

Alfred State coaches Gene Doorley and Stephanie Sprague with sophomores Elaina Braun, Brianne McMahon, Natalie Gregory, and Shannon Jablonski.For the past thirty years volleyball teams at Alfred State College have been compared to the success of the 1976 and 1977 teams. After two unbelievably successful seasons the standard of excellence of the volleyball program will now be compared to the success of the 2006 and 2007 teams.
