The cross country program at Alfred State has risen to the top of NJCAA under the guidance of Gary Moore. In his twenty-seven years at the helm of the program the men’s team has won twelve Region III Championships while the women have won four. In 2003, for the first time in school history, the Lady Pioneers won the NJCAA Division III National Championship. In 2008, the men's team finished 3rd and the women's team finished 5th in the nation (John Sweeney, Ashley Fung, and Kaleigh Ligoci ran to NJCAA All-American honors).
Moore earned an Associate Degree from Alfred State College, a Bachelor Degree from SUNY Brockport, and a Masters Degree from Southern Mississippi. While at Brockport, Moore participated in the NCAA National Track and Field Championships and currently still participates in road races along with coaching the Alfred-Almond Track Club.
Numerous member of Moore’s team have received accolades and have moved on to NCAA competition.
Moore lives in Geneseo with his wife Mary.
