The cross country program at Alfred State has risen to the top of NJCAA under the guidance of Gary Moore. In his twenty-nine years at the helm of the program the men’s team has won twelve Region III Championships while the women have won five. In 2011 the Lady Pioneers won the program's second Division III National Championship (2003 was the first).  In the two of the past three years the men's team finished as NJCAA Division III Runner-up.  In 2011 two Pioneers (Tara Murphy & Diana Burley) ran to All-American honors.

Moore earned an Associate Degree from Alfred State, a Bachelor Degree from SUNY Brockport, and a Masters Degree from Southern Mississippi. While at Brockport, Moore participated in the NCAA National Track and Field Championships and currently still participates in road races along with coaching the Alfred-Almond Track Club.

Numerous member of Moore’s team have received accolades and have moved on to NCAA competition.

Moore lives in Geneseo with his wife Mary.
