Lady Pioneers Remain #1

The 17-1 Alfred State women's soccer team remained in the top spot of this week's NJCAA Division III poll released today. The Lady Pioneers have won 17-straight and are playing for the Region III Championship this weekend.

The 17-1 Alfred State women's soccer team remained in the top spot of this week's NJCAA Division III poll released today.  The Lady Pioneers have won 17-straight and are playing for the Region III Championship this weekend.

The Lady Pioneers are followed in the poll by Ocean County College, Finger Lakes CC, Mohawk Valley CC, and Brookdale CC.  Gloucester County College, Bunker Hill CC, Holyoke CC, Richland College, and Potomac State round out the top ten.

Alfred takes the field again on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Lady Pioneers Advance to Regional Finals

The Alfred State women's soccer team advanced to the Region III Division III A Finals with a 1-0 victory over Clinton CC in a semifinal match-up. The #1 ranked and #1 seeded Lady Pioneers will take on #4 Broome CC in the finals on Saturday afternoon.

The lone goal of the game came 20:58 into the game when Hannah Holmok's (Alfred Almond) shot deflected off the Cougar defender and found the back of the net.  Stephanie Simard (Warsaw) was credited with the assist.

Football players Mikel DeMonte (Brockport) and Thomas Daniels (Bronx/ICE) along with volleyball player Rebecca Hanrahan (Greene) have been named the Alfred State athletes of the week by the SID office.

Four Baseball Players Named All-WNYAC

Four members of the Alfred State baseball team have been honored by the Western New York Athletic Conference. Daiki Iizuka (Chiba, Japan) was named 2nd team while Stephen Solomon (Harrisburg, PA), Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton), and Brett Rapan (Bolivar Richburg).

Four members of the Alfred State baseball team have been honored by the Western New York Athletic Conference.  Daiki Iizuka (Chiba, Japan) was named 2nd team while Stephen Solomon (Harrisburg, PA), Jordan Wheaton (Wayland Cohocton), and Brett Rapan (Bolivar Richburg).

Iizuka led the blue & gold with a .348 batting average (8 for 23).  He collected two doubles and scored three runs.  He was also 3 for 4 on the basepaths.

Solomon tossed 26 innings this fall for the Pioneers.  He was 0-2 with a 3.46 ERA in five appearances.  He allowed 24 hits an

Three Lady Pioneers Named All-WNYAC

Three members of the Alfred State volleyball team have been named All-WNYAC. Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) and Lera Braun (Waterloo) were named to the 2nd team while Jessica Ramsey (Tioga) was a 3rd team selection.

Three members of the Alfred State volleyball team have been named All-WNYAC.  Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) and Lera Braun (Waterloo) were named to the 2nd team while Jessica Ramsey (Tioga) was a 3rd team selection.

Pfleghardt leads the Lady Pioneers with 389 kills (3.57 per set).  She also has 300 digs (2.75 per set), 68 service aces, and 39 aces.  She has appeared in 109 of the team's 126 sets on the year.

Braun has appeared in 116 sets this year as the team's setter.  She has passed out 888 assists (7.66 per set) and has 270 digs (2.33 per set).  She also

Lady Pioneers to Host Clinton in Semifinals

The #1 ranked and #1 seeded Alfred State women's soccer team will host #9 seeded Clinton CC in the Region III Division III Tournament semifinals on Tuesday afternoon starting at 4 p.m. Clinton defeated #8 seeded Onondaga CC 1-0 on Saturday in a 1st round contest.

The #1 ranked and #1 seeded Alfred State women's soccer team will host #9 seeded Clinton CC in the Region III Division III Tournament semifinals on Tuesday afternoon starting at 4 p.m.  Clinton defeated #8 seeded Onondaga CC 1-0 on Saturday in a 1st round contest.

The Lady Pioneers will enter the game with a 16-1 record and a 12-0 mark in Region III Division III contest.  Clinton is 8-5 on the year.

The winner of this contest moves to the Region III Division III A Finals to be held on Saturday at Tompkins Cortland CC and will take on the winner of #4 Broome CC and #5

Lady Pioneers Advance to WNYAC Semi’s

The Alfred State volleyball team was 2-1 at the Western New York Athletic Conference tournament held at Genesee CC. The Lady Pioneers head into the Region III Tournament with a 26-13 overall record.

The #6 seeded Lady Pioneers defeated #7 Mercyhurst North East 25-11, 25-20, 25-11 and then downed #3 Genesee CC 14-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-16, 15-12 to advance to the tournament semifinals.  In the semi’s, Alfred won the first game 25-23 over #2 Niagara CCC but the Thunderwolves won the next three 18-25, 23-25, 21-25 to advance to the tournament finals.
