Women 3rd, Men 5th in Latest XC Poll

The Alfred State women's team is now ranked #3 and the men's team is ranked #5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll. The Pioneers had held the #2 spot in each of the polls the past two weeks.

The Pioneers spent last weekend competing at the Hamilton Invitational.  The women's team finished 8th while the men were 9th.  Kim Lupo (Auburn) was the top finisher on the women's side in the 5k course. She crossed the finish line in 21:12.9 to earn 65th place  Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East) was the top male finisher with a 48th place finish.

Phalen Named Region and Alfred State Athlete of the Week

Football player Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) has been named both the Region III athlete of the week and the Alfred State athlete of the week. Phalen is the second Pioneer athlete to be honored this fall by Region III.

Giedlin began his career at Alfred State in 1957 as the director of student housing and men's basketball coach.  He became the college's athletic director in 1966 and served in that role for 21 years.  He was also the chairman of the physical education department for 20 years f

Volleyball Falls in Quarters

The Alfred State volleyball team fell in the quarterfinals of the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament held at Onondaga CC.  The Pioneers split a pair of preliminary games in the morning but lost a tough 2-1 decision to Herkimer CCC in the tournament quarterfinals.

The Pioneers earned their 20th win of the season with a 25-10, 25-14 victory over Mohawk Valley CC to start the day.  They then fell 17-25, 23-25 to the host Onondaga CC and finished the preliminary round as the #7 seed.  They drew #2 Herkimer and fell 25-21, 21-15, 12-15.

The Alfred State women's cross country team finished 8th while the men were 9th at the Hamilton College Invitational. The Lady Pioneers scored a 254 while the men scored a 253.

Kim Lupo (Auburn) was the top finisher on the women's side in the 5k course.  She crossed the finish line in 21:12.9 to earn 65th place  Megan Dillon (Lake Shore) was 84th (22:07.4), Elizabeth Brown (Randolph) was 87th (22:08.9), and Anna Burkett (Frewsburg) was 90th (22:13.0).  Katy Monahan (Warsaw) rounded out the top five with a 95th place finish (22:24.2).

Lady Pioneers Shut Down #8 Herkimer

The Alfred State women's soccer team recorded their 12th straight victory with a 3-0 decision over #8 Herkimer CCC on Saturday afternoon. The #4 ranked Lady Pioneers are now 12-1 on the season and 11-0 in Region III Division III play.

The Alfred State volleyball team split their opening two matches at the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament at Onondaga CC on Friday evening. The Pioneers defeated SUNY Delhi 25-16, 25-17 but fell to Jamestown CC 25-18, 25-16. The Lady Pioneers have two more preliminary games slated for Saturday before tournament playoffs.

Pioneers Remain Steady in the Polls

The cross country teams and the women's soccer team remained in their spots in the latest NJCAA Division III polls. Both the men's and women's cross country teams are ranked #2 for the 2nd straight week while the women's soccer team sits at #4 for the 2nd straight week.

The women's volleyball team is also receiving some national attention by receiving votes in the national poll.  The Lady Pioneers sit just outside the top ten for the 3rd straight week.

The #4 ranked Alfred State women's soccer team won their eleventh straight game with a 4-0 victory at Corning CC on Thursday. The Lady Pioneers are now 11-1, 10-0 Region III Division III, on the year and have recorded four straight shutouts.
