Alfred State Accepted in NCAA

Pioneers Down Elmira JV

The Alfred State men's basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 66-60 victory over Elmira JV on Thursday evening. The Pioneers are now 7-11 on the season.

Jamar White (Laurel, MD) led the the three Pioneers in double-figures with 19 points.  Marquis Chatman (Allen, TX) connected on four 3-pointers and finished with 14 while Cristian Santana (Harlem Village Academy) chipped in 14 as well.

The Pioneer trailed by six, 35-29, at halftime but outscored the Soaring Eagles by 12 in the 2nd half.

Pioneers Wrestle Past Jayhawks

The Alfred State wrestling team got back on the winning track with a 28-20 victory over Jamestown CC on Wednesday evening.  The Pioneers are now 2-5 on the year.

Travis Harvey (Alfred Almond) led the way with a major decision 8-0 at 197 lbs.  Connor Fox (Midlakes) won 6-4 and Anthony Carome (Cincinnati, OH) won 12-5  while Ethan Livernash (Penfield), Stephen Ansteth (Auburn), and Dan Ognibene (Alexander) earned forfeit wins.

The blue & gold return to action on Saturday when they travel to Niagara CCC for a 2 p.m. battle with the Thunderwolves.

The Alfred State men's basketball team fell 76-47 to Genesee CC as the Pioneers continued their five-game roadtrip.  The Pioneers are now 6-11 on the year and 0-5 in WNYAC play.

Adam Fezza (Southhampton) led the blue & gold with 13 points while Wade Franklin (Arkport) netted a career high 11.  Sean Nolan (Palmyra Macedon) finished with nine points while Ben Wutz (Elma/Iroquois) led the team with nine boards.

Donte Meredith led the Cougars balanced attack with 18 points.  GCC shot 42.9% from the field compared to the Pioneers 31% shooting.

Fanning Leads Lady Pioneer Romp

Karley Fanning (Bishop Kearney) scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Alfred State women's basketball team downed Genesee CC 81-35 in a Region III Division II contest.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in RIII DII play.

The blue & gold led by only ten, 30-20 at halftime but dominated the 2nd half outscoring the Lady Cougars 51 to 15 in the 2nd.  Key to the success was the Lady Pioneers domination on the boards.  They outrebounded GCC 75 to 41 including 36 to 13 on the offensive boards.

Pendleton Named Athlete of the Week

Alfred State swimmer Mark Pendleton (Beacon) has been named the Alfred State athlete of the week. Pendleton and the Pioneers dove into the 2013 schedule this past week with competitions at Wells College and Monroe CC.

Versus Wells College on Wednesday, Pendleton won the 1650 free (20:15.63) and the 100 free (58.11). He also was part of the winning 200 medley relay team.

At the Monroe CC Invitational, he was 2nd in the 1650 free (19:42.78), 4th in the 200 back (2:41.14), and 6th in the 100 breast (1:14.91).

Alfred heads to Jamestown CC twice this next week.

Harvey Leads Pioneers at Mt. Union

Travis Harvey (Alfred Almond) led the Alfred State wrestling contingent at the Mt. Union Purple Raider Open on Sunday.  Harvey and the Pioneers were one of 21 teams that competed in the non-scoring event.

Harvey was 2-2 in the 197 lb. weight class.  He earned a 5-4 over Tim Strauss (Lake Erie College) in his opening match.  After falling in his 2nd round match, Harvey pinned Ramsey Hanna (Pittsburgh) in 2:29.  In his next consolation match, Harvey was eliminated by Tyler Landfried (Mercyhurst).

Pioneers Can't Solve #6 Tribunes

The Alfred State men's basketball team couldn't solve #6 Monroe CC and fell 128-48. The Tribunes are now 17-2 on the year while the Pioneers are 6-10, 0-4 WNYAC.

Eight different Tribunes finished in double figures led by Edward Hector's 18.  The Tribunes jumped out to a 59-23 halftime lead and forced 34 Pioneer turnovers.

Donnie Steveson (Red Creek) led the PIoneers with 11 points and six boards while Marquis Chatman (Allen, TX) added eight points and nine rebounds.

Alfred travels to Genesee CC on Tuesday for a 8 p.m. tip-off with the Cougars.

Monroe CC earned their 12th straight victory 93-51 over Alfred State on Saturday evening. The Lady Tribunes are now 13-4 on the year while the Lady Pioneers are 10-6.

Karley Fanning (Bishop Kearney) came off the bench and led Alfred with 10 points and seven boards.  Helena Covington (Elmira Free), Sally Santiago (Bronx/Our Lady of Good Counsel), and Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) all chipped in eight points.

Karin Robinson led MCC with 23 points and nine boards while Donisha Watson had a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards.

Monroe held a 59 to 36 adv
