The Alfred State College baseball team's fall season came to an end following a 3-1 loss to Niagara CCC in the WNYAC Tournament 1st round. The Pioneers wrap up the fall with a 4-11, 3-10 WNYAC, record.
The Pioneers were held to just two hits both by Andrew Alexander (LeRoy) who finished 2 for 3 on the day.
Niagara took a 1-0 lead in the 1st but ASC tied it up when Anthony Espe (Union Endicott) drove home Dennis Dueno (Brooklyn/Bishop Ford) on a push bunt.
The Thunderwolves took the lead for good in the 4th with a single run and added an insurance run in the 8th.
Tyler Mann (Holland Patent) tossed eight solid innings allowing no earned runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out four.
The blue & gold return to action in the middle of March when they travel to Florida for their annual spring trip.
The Alfred State College women's soccer team scored a season high six goals in a 6-2 victory over Erie CC in the continuous rain on Thursday. The win, the team's third straight, improves the Lady Pioneers to 6-3 overall and 5-3 in Region III Division III play.
Makenzie Finnemore (Genesee Valley) led the way with a goal and two assists while Holli Pierce (Livonia) added two goals. Jenna Lynn (York) added a goal and an assist while Kayla Koerner (Greenville) and Kristine Hallowell (Greece Odyssey) each netted their first career goals. Tiffany Fox (Canisteo Greenwood), Tara Scholla (Genesee Valley), and Charise Nankivell (Hornell) all picked up an assist.
The blue & gold return to action on Saturday when they host Cayuga CC at Noon.
Erie CC scored two second half goals in a 3-1 victory over Alfred State in the rain on Thursday. The Pioneers fall to 2-5-2 on the season.
Peter Dezio (East Rochester) scored the first goal of the game with 15 minutes left in the 1st half. Erie answered with a few minutes later to send the game into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Kats found the back of the net twice in the 2nd half to secure the victory.
Daniel Krajcir (Gloversville) made eight saves in net.
ASC returns to action on Saturday when they host Cayuga CC at 2 p.m.
The Alfred State College volleyball team swept a Region III Division III match 25-18, 25-20, 25-19 over Corning CC. The Lady Pioneers improve to 11-7 overall on the season 11-5 in Region III Division III play.
Kelley Dumbleton (Warsaw) led the way with 10 kills and eight digs while Meghan Kraus (Trumansburg) finished with a game high 11 kills. Brittany Haines (Salamanca) continued her solid all around play chipping in 25 assists, six digs, and three kills. Kara Anderson (Wayne), Mandy Bush (Altoona, PA), and Andrea Presher (Prattsburgh) all finished with eight digs.
The Pioneers have over a week off before hosting the Alfred State Tournament on October 9th.
