Trailing 35-7 with under eleven minutes remaining Alfred State College put forth a valiant comeback but was unable to make it all the way back.  Dean College improves to 8-1 (3-1 NFC) with the 35-27 victory at Pioneer Stadium.

Alfred State and Dean traded touchdown drives early in the second quarter but the Bulldogs would erase a 7-6 deficit by scoring the next 29 points.

With the score 35-7, ASC started a furious comeback.  Sir Aaron Taylor (Lincoln Hall) rushed in from two-yards out with 8:48 remaining in the contest to make it 35-14.  It was Taylor's second rushing score of the game.  He had ran in from 19-yards in the second quarter.

Taylor connected with Pat White (Warren, OH) on a 23-yard scoring play with 5:12 remaining to make it 35-20 and connected with Rod Streater (Burlington, NJ) on a 11-yard touchdown pass with 38 seconds to close the cap to one score.

ASC tried an on-side kick but Dean recovered and ran out the rest of the clock.

Taylor finished 7 for 26 for 164 yards and two scores in his first collegiate start at quarterback.  He also rushed for 79 yards and two scores on 23 carries.  White finished with 68 yards receiving on two catches while Streater had three catches for 56 yards.

Anthony Baskerville finished 7 for 15 for 161 yards and three scores for Dean.  He also rushed for 66 yards on 14 carries.  Andre Hayward finished with 91 yards rushing, Leroy Bradford had 90 yards rushing and two scores, and Duncan McGriff caught a 68-yard scoring pass.

Wendell Williamson (New Haven, CT) led the Pioneers with nine tackles while Obi Ezemma (Ramapo) and Robert Edmonds (Washington, DC) each had seven tackles.  Dmeetri Wilson (Monroe) and Rod White (Baltimore, MD) each picked off first quarter passes.

Kevin Johnson led Dean with eight tackles (six for a loss).  He also had two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.  Tenerio Davis, Curtis Weaterhspoon, and Nick Stevens all finished with seven tackles.

Alfred State hits the road for the final time in 2009 next Saturday when they travel to Nassau CC for a Noon kickoff.

Men's Soccer Advances with OT Win

Kevin Arilotta (Churchville) found Masanari Yamamoto (Tokyo, Japan) with a nice crossing pass with 4:29 remaining in the first overtime to lift the Alfred State College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Jefferson CC in a Region III Division III Tournament first round contest.

The #8 seeded Pioneers and #9 seeded Cannoneers traded opportunities throughout regulation with both goalies making game-saving stops.

On the winning play, Arilotta took the ball to the far corner of the box and sent a cross that found the head of Yamamoto who was able to sneak it in the net.

ASC held a 15 to 6 shot advantage.  Dan Krajcir (Gloversville) made four saves in net for ASC while Brandon Davis made ten saves for JCC.

The Pioneers improve to 8-6-1 on the season and will travel to #1 seeded Herkimer CCC for a quarterfinal match-up with the Generals.
