Alumni Association Board President's Message

Gail Boorman '09Greetings Fellow Alums:

When I spoke at this year’s Commencement, I admitted that 40 years ago I was a young, enthusiastic grad sitting up on the athletic field at my own Commencement ceremony.  Difficult though it is to realize 40 years have slipped by, I have enjoyed several different types of employment…all a direct result of my Alfred State College education.  (I was an executive secretarial major.)

Throughout this past year, I was fortunate to reconnect with two of my closest curriculum girlfriends. One came to visit me here in the Philippines in March and this summer I enjoyed an evening with the second who brought her husband, also an Alfred grad.   One important fact was evident - we all felt that our ASC education provided us with the foundation to become successful in our chosen careers.

As I talk to ASC alums everywhere I go, one theme is consistent…ASC provides a quality, affordable education.  ASC continues to grow physically with continual changes on campus as well as academically with a long list of curriculum additions.  I invite you to continue to support your alma mater…there are so many ways to contribute: offer your talents as a mentor, coordinate internships and employment for current ASC students, or contribute financially to campus improvements, scholarships, or endowments.

The ASC Alumni Association continues to reach out to alums everywhere…check our updated Alumni Association Web page or join us on Facebook.  We have a full schedule of events planned on campus as well as local chapters in Buffalo, Rochester, Southern Tier, and Syracuse.  Up-to-date information can be found on the events page.

Keep in touch and let us know what you’ve been doing since graduation!

Gail (Norton) Boorman, ‘69

P.S.  I am continuing to utilize my ASC secretarial skills as secretary of the ex-pat organization here in the Philippines!
