Commencement To Be Held Sunday, May 16

Nearly 900 two- and four-year graduates, their families, professors, and friends will be on hand Sunday, May 16 at noon, as Alfred State College honors its 99th graduating class. Commencement exercises are scheduled to be held at McLane Center on neighboring Alfred University campus. Graduates will need to use the tickets in their graduation packets for their families’ admission.

The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Alfred State College will host its Human Services Awareness Day, Wednesday, April 21, 2010, from 1-3 p.m. in the Allegany Room of Central Dining Hall on the Alfred campus.

The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Alfred State College will host its Human Services Awareness Day, Wednesday, April 21, 2010, from 1-3 p.m. in the Allegany Room of Central Dining Hall on the Alfred campus. This event affords human services students at the college, as well as human services alumni and community services graduates in the community, an opportunity to meet with representatives from local and regional human services agencies to gain information about the field and about opportunities in the field.

26th Annual Honors Convocation - Sunday, April 18

The convocation recognizes the outstanding work of students through acknowledgement of membership in a variety of honor societies as well as the conferment of scholarships and special recognitions. More than 300 students will be honored at this year’s celebration, presided over by Craig R. Clark, ASC interim vice president for academic affairs. The welcome and introduction of keynote speaker Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient 2009 James A. Bradbury, president, Kanawha Scales & Systems, Inc., will be given by Dr. John M. Anderson, college president.

Alfred State College will celebrate the academic achievements of its students during the 26th annual Honors Convocation slated for Sunday, April 18, at 4 p.m. in the Orvis Gymnasium on the Alfred campus.

Health Information Technology NYHIMA Awards

An Alfred State College health information technology graduate is being honored with achievement awards in 2010.

Cheryl Wilkins, Wilson, has been awarded the New York Health Information Management Association (NYHIMA) Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Wilkins, who graduated from Alfred State in December 2009, maintained a 3.26 grade point average (out of a possible 4.0).

An Alfred State College health information technology graduate is being honored with achievement awards in 2010.

Cheryl Wilkins, Wilson, has been awarded the New York Health Information Management Association (NYHIMA) Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Wilkins, who graduated from Alfred State in December 2009, maintained a 3.26 grade point average (out of a possible 4.0). Wilkins is a medical transcriptionist at Eastern Niagara Hospital, Newfane. She will sit for the national Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) exam this summer.

First Annual Renewable Energy and Conservation Methods Info Night

Alfred State College is partnering with Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES to sponsor the first annual Renewable Energy and Conservation Methods Information night, Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, 5:30-8:30 p.m., at the BOCES Center, 1825 Windfall Rd., Olean. (Snow date will be Thursday, Feb. 25.)
