Local Solar Installers Earn Industry’s Most Prestigious Certification

Jeffrey Stevens, assistant professor, and Sean Kelley, adjunct instructor, Electrical Trades Department, Alfred State College, recently earned the industry’s leading recognition of expertise as a certified installer of solar electric systems (aka “photovoltaic” or “PV” systems) from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).

Hornell City Court Judge and associate professor in the Business Department at Alfred State College Joseph E. Damrath will serve as keynote speaker at the College’s annual New Student Convocation in August.

Pioneers Garner Academic Awards

Several Alfred State College athletes have earned honors from the NJCAA, Region III, and the Western New York Athletic Conference for outstanding academic achievements.  Three Pioneers were recipients of the NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement, three more were honored with the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement, 11 were named Academic All-Region, and 15 were named Academic All-Conference.

Masonry Students Receive Award for Excellence in Trowel Trades

Stephen Richard, Charles Jessup, Jermaine Helire, Pat Palmer, Brian Johnson, and Ben PalmerThis award is given to outstanding students in the masonry curriculum. This year’s winners, Jermaine Helire, Auburn, and Brian Johnson, Black Creek, each received $500 checks.

ASC Alumnus Supplies ACES Dining Services

“I worked for ACES catering when I was in college and over the summer and I knew that they sometimes used edible flowers for their dishes. I approached Bron Norasethaporn, the catering manager, to see if he would be willing to buy flowers from me,” Kacalski said.

Sometimes, the stars are misaligned and a farmer or a gardener is born into the wrong city. When it happens, those budding individuals must make their own way to a place where they can become rooted – a place where their passion for plants and agriculture can thrive. It happened this way for Tom Kacalski, Alfred State College ’06, ’09. And now Kacalski is providing specialized growing services for Alfred State’s Dining Services.
