From the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management
Another academic year is underway. Along with a new school year come a few changes in the Alfred State Admissions Office.
This year we will be implementing a completely electronic application review process. Our admissions counselors will now be viewing applications, transcripts, and all supplemental materials entirely electronically. All correspondence that comes in for an application in paper format will be scanned and then linked to the appropriate application. This new system will allow applications and all related correspondence to be handled in a more expedient fashion thus speeding up the decision process.
We are also happy to welcome new staff members to our team. Filling in for Flossie Stephens, Admissions Counselor, while she is on maternity leave will be Loren Fuller. Loren brings a wealth of experience to our office, having worked in both business and service related fields. Most recently Loren coordinated an afterschool program for young ladies from the north end of Hartford, CT. This program promoted positive life skills integrated into sport and physical activity. Loren received her bachelor’s degree from Rice University and completes her master’s degree this summer at the University of Connecticut.
Kelly Ludovici, Senior International Admissions Counselor, comes to us from Cicero, NY. Kelly received her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and her master’s degree from the University of Rochester. Kelly brings a wealth of knowledge about the admissions field and most recently assisted with the admissions process at the University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education and Human Development. Kelly will be leading the college’s international student recruitment process.
SUNY Online Academic Records (SOAR) Available for 2012
Fifty of SUNY’s 64 campuses (including Alfred State College) will begin accepting SOAR for 2012 applications. What is SOAR? It is a Web-based tool that allows students to submit transcript information (i.e., high school courses and grades) as well as ACT and SAT test scores electronically. By students self reporting their academic information, colleges and universities will have access to this information sooner. SOAR can be accessed through the SUNY Web site at www.suny.edu/student. Most institutions will require a final, official transcript prior to enrollment. Of course, any student who deliberately omits or falsifies information will jeopardize his/ her chances of attending that school since the campus would have the right to revoke the acceptance.
