Alfred State College's School of Applied Technology, Wellsville, hosted the 11th annual New York State Postsecondary (college level) SkillsUSA competition in March. Competitions took place in automotive service, CNC milling, carpentry, collision repair technology, commercial baking, computer maintenance technology, cosmetology, culinary, diesel technology, job skills demonstration, masonry, precision machining, residential wiring, technical drafting, and welding.

Meanwhile, business owners work hard to entice students to patronize local establishments, spend some dollars locally, and get involved in the community. This kind of stalemate is slowly dissolving in Alfred, NY, because of a unique Campus Partner program implemented at Alfred State College in Fall 2007.

Five categories of recipes will be judged by the dining services team. The categories are:
Casserole
Cold salad
Soup
Vegetarian/vegan entrée
Main dish entrée
Thecontest is open to family members of current Alfred State College students.

Alfred State College will host New York's first Lettuce Tasting event on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, in the new Student Gathering Place on campus. "Lettuce Indulge," hosted by Alfred State's Center for Organic and Sustainable Agriculture (COSA), will give students and members of the community the chance to sample COSA's produce while giving their taste buds an education in greens.
