Courses for Students Who Have Been Conditionally Accepted

Students who have been conditionally accepted to Alfred State based on completing an Introductory Chemistry and/or Intermediate Algebra course before the next semester begins can take these courses online through the Center for Extended Learning.

Courses are offered on an ongoing basis. Students can register and start whenever they wish and can work at their own pace. Progress is monitored and grades are communicated with the Admissions Office upon completion of the course.

Successful completion of these courses with a C or better will allow the conditionally accepted student to be officially accepted into the college, but it does not dictate what math/science courses will be needed throughout the student’s course of study at Alfred State. The student still must go through the math/science department’s placement procedures.

Please note: These non-credit, online courses are non-refundable once the registration fee is paid.

Essentials of Chemistry

Students will utilize this non-laboratory, preparatory course to understand the basic concepts of chemistry in this 12-week course. The course deals in depth with the structure, properties, and uses of matter, the composition and changes in the composition of material, and the factors that influence these changes. Students will explore mathematical relationships, atomic and molecular structures, acid/base and pH concepts, bonding, matter and energy, kinetics and equilibrium, and other topics (included in the New York State Regents curriculum) of interest to those who live in our chemical world. The course is designed to provide a better understanding of chemistry in our daily lives and its contribution to modern technology.

Cost: $155 per course plus books
