The Physical and Health Sciences Department offers a certificate in coding and reimbursement specialist, an AAS in health information technology (nationally accredited), an AAS in nursing (nationally accredited), an AAS in biological science and a BS in forensic science technology. The philosophy of the department is to provide students a sound scientific and technical education to be successful in a career path as well as to provide a general education to equip them to fulfill their roles in society. These will be delivered via theoretical and practical learning experiences on-campus, off-campus (internships), and virtually. If a student expresses an interest outside of our expectations, independent study options are developed. Strong emphasis is placed on understanding the importance of life-long learning reflected by the numerous articulation agreements assuring a seamless transition to other institutions of higher learning.
The department offers students the opportunity to use state-of-the-art equipment in laboratories/clinical sites for real world settings or simulations. For those online experiences, the most current virtual laboratories are available. In all instances, demonstration of competencies is required as is the ability to use critical thinking to solve problems, encouraged in a team approach.
In some programs, there are some physical ability requirements based on an individualized assessment that relies on current medical evidence or on the best objective evidence. See each program for specific physical requirements. If a student’s physical ability compromises or threatens their program success or the health and safety of others, they may be denied enrollment or continuation in the program.
