Programs: Air Conditioning & Heating Technology, Building Trades: Building Construction, Heavy Equipment Operations, and Masonry
Rewarding careers in the construction industry are open to students graduating from the building trades programs. With the continual development of new building methods and materials, the craftsperson finds it necessary to keep abreast of these developments. Construction, as in many other occupations, is becoming a field of specialists.
The building trades programs provide instruction in the skills required by the carpenter, heavy equipment operator, mason, plumber, heating specialist, or air conditioning specialist in the construction and remodeling of residential or light commercial masonry buildings. Coupled with "hands-on" experience working at off-campus construction sites, the programs provide the necessary theory as well as instruction in blueprint reading, cost and materials, estimating, safety, and the use of newly developed equipment and materials.

Semester in the South
Fall 2010 senior carpentry students got to use the skills they acquired during their first year of study to help rebuild two cities ravaged by Hurricane Katrina: New Orleans, LA, and Bay St. Louis, MS. Watch our "Semester in the South" video to learn more about their experience.
