Local Economic Impact

  • The college employs more than 600 people
  • Alfred State employees earn approximately $28 million (not including fringe benefits) annually
  • Since 2007, using their Campus Spending Accounts, students have purchased more than $1.9 million dollars’ worth of goods and services in the local community
  • In 2012-2013, area businesses received more than $250,000 from college purchases
  • The college provides students, faculty, and staff free round-trip bus transportation to Hornell businesses twice a week during the academic year
  • Alfred State attracts more than 7,000 visitors into the community annually
  • The college trains more than 1,150 Western New York residents with specialized skills for entrance into the job market per year
  • Alfred State estimates that there are 23,500 of its alumni living in Western New York alone

Community Partners and Student Spending in the Community
Using money deposited on their Campus Spending Accounts, Alfred State students may use their Campus ID to purchase goods and services from participating businesses in the Alfred and Wellsville communities. As of January 2014, 10 Campus Partners participate in the program.
